About us

Before opening my picture framing shop in Squamish, I offered professional picture framing services from my own workshop in The Netherlands. I gained a lot of experience and knowledge by completing the Dutch school of artisan framing, by working for several Dutch picture framers, and I was blessed with two wonderful internships where I learnt the true craftsmanship. I got taught my profession on the highest level of framing, following the guidelines of the Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG) in the UK. As a result of my education and experience, I was granted membership of the FATG.

Custom art framing in Squamish

At FRAME IT in Squamish we do custom picture framing for almost everything, think of paintings, etchings and photographs to 3D objects, your sports memorabilia and textiles. With our framing, each piece is put on a figurative ‘pedestal’. We design a frame to fit your piece of art, apply conservational framing techniques and use archival materials while assembling it. Fine art framing is not so much about just putting a nice frame around a piece of art. It’s about knowing how to treat a specific valuable, applying non-invasive mounting techniques and preserving a piece with acid-free materials.

Matboards

Designing the perfect picture frame for your piece of art or object usually starts with selecting one or more matboards. We may choose a 100% acid free all rag mat, or get a little bit more creative and choose from a variety of colours or fabrics.

Frames / mouldings

Make your choice out of many wooden or metal frames displayed in our shop. We join each and every frame by hand. Looking for something special? Ask us about a custom colour matched, or closed corner frame.

Artglass

We'll help you choose from several high quality Artglass and acrylic options, offering the highest clarity possible and the best UV protection. With Artglass anti-reflective glass, you'll see every detail, as clear as if there weren’t any glass at all.

Mounting

Depending on the type and value of what you’re framing, anything from Japanese hinges to stitching may be used to attach your piece to the backing material. We will discuss the appropriate mounting options. For works of museum value we use original handmade Japanese Kozu paper.

Fitting and finishing

In addition to your mounted object or art, the glass and optional mats are cut to fit. If the item is dimensional, shadowbox walls may need to be built to create deeper sides on the frame. The entire 'package' is finally assembled and closed with a dust cover or European backing board, and hanging hardware.
