Protecting and preserving your artwork with conservation framing
When framing artwork, the materials in direct contact with it are crucial. Non-archival (acidic) materials, cardboard or other unsuitable materials can lead to irreversible damage and diminish the value of the piece. At Frame It, we use museum-quality, archival materials and methods designed to protect your artwork while allowing for future reversibility.
Every detail in conservation framing—from the type of mountboard to the choice of glazing—is designed to protect your artwork from physical and environmental damage while preserving its aesthetic and financial value.

Archival principles we follow
✅ Acid-Free, Archival Materials
We use only acid-free materials that won’t degrade or harm your artwork over time. Many of our materials are also alkaline-buffered, helping to absorb acidity from the environment or the artwork itself.
✅ Reversible Techniques
All adhesives and attachment methods are fully reversible, ensuring your artwork can be safely removed or reframed in the future without damage.
Matboards
Designing the perfect picture frame for your piece of art or object usually starts with selecting one or more matboards. We may choose a 100% acid free all rag mat, or get a little bit more creative and choose from a variety of colours or fabrics.
Frames / mouldings
Make your choice out of many wooden or metal frames displayed in our shop. We join each and every frame by hand. Looking for something special? Ask us about a custom colour matched, or closed corner frame.
Artglass
We'll help you choose from several high quality Artglass and acrylic options, offering the highest clarity possible and the best UV protection. With Artglass anti-reflective glass, you'll see every detail, as clear as if there weren’t any glass at all.
Mounting
Depending on the type and value of what you’re framing, anything from Japanese hinges to stitching may be used to attach your piece to the backing material. We will discuss the appropriate mounting options. For works of museum value we use original handmade Japanese Kozu paper.
Fitting and finishing
In addition to your mounted object or art, the glass and optional mats are cut to fit. If the item is dimensional, shadowbox walls may need to be built to create deeper sides on the frame. The entire 'package' is finally assembled and closed with a dust cover or European backing board, and hanging hardware.
